The rich literary and visual foundations of Mexicanidad—the post-revolutionary cultural renaissance that celebrates indigenous and rural heritage—will be explored through the literary and visual works of Conrado Espinoza, John Steinbeck, the Alvarez Bravos, and Paul Strand. Key texts in this study include Espinoza's evocative El sol de Texas/Under the Texas Sun (1926) and Steinbeck's poignant The Forgotten Village (1941), which collectively offer a powerful foundation for an emerging and resilient Mexican identity in the face of change.
