According to the American Heart Association, nearly half of American adults have some form of cardiovascular or chronic disease. Medical analysis has shown that the quality of our nutrition is a critical factor in determining personal health. A positive change in what we eat can delay and reverse serious chronic diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, T2 diabetes, and lessen the chances of developing dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and certain cancers. We will discuss a proven process to align your daily nutrition with the core principles of eating healthy to live a long, healthy life. Prior to class, students are encouraged to complete the anonymous EatSHARP personal nutrition assessment at https://eatsharp.org?group=OLLI-Sierra . Individuals can stay anonymous.

This class culminates our three weeks of American history and governmental studies. The oldest known American Cookbook is “American Cooking” published in 1796 by Amelia Simmons. We plan to cook and eat many of the recipes from this book to celebrate our 250 years as a nation. This class has two options (sign-up for one of the two:

Option #1 - Sign up to actually cook one of the recipes (to be assigned) from the “American Cooking” Cookbook which you will be provided for free. You will share your dish in class (A Zoom Call with Terry McAteer is required). No cost except for foodstuffs. Those who sign up for Option 1 do not need to sign up for Option 2, as you will be sharing your prepared dish with the class.

Option #2 - Come join the colonial celebration in having a “catered” lunch with your fellow OLLI students.

    *Class Dates: 2/25 (only).
*The class date and location is when and where you will share/bring your dishes. The Zoom meeting will be held at an earlier date. Terry will send you the Zoom Link and inform you of when it's taking place.
