You know you are getting old when: 

• It takes a couple of tries to get over a speed bump
• You have a party and your neighbors don't realize it

What constitutes a life well-lived? What are the ingredients for lasting happiness? We'll explore the findings of those who continue to research this topic. 

National Geographic photographer, Joel Sartore started the Photo Ark in 2006 when he was homebound in Lincoln, Nebraska caring for his sick wife and their three children. In order to continue working, he decided to photograph some of the animals at the Children's Zoo near his home. This led him to create what he called a Photo Ark recording images of 12,000 species in captivity as a way to promote animal conservation. The 25-year project has received worldwide acclaim and has grown toward the current goal of recording images of 25,000 species.

Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple are Agatha Christie’s best-known detectives.  In this class we will look at two novels featuring these sleuths: "Death on the Nile" and "The Body in the Library".  While the two novels seem very different—Miss Marple and Poirot have little in common and the settings of the novels couldn’t be much further apart—we will think about the ways in which both books resonate with each other.  For example, in what ways do the respective settings function as characters? What is the role of the detective (beyond simply solving the central puzzle)?  How do the novels comment on or reflect social and cultural conventions? 

According to Jewish legend, in 1700BC a man named Abraham put his faith in a god named YHVH, and in return was instructed to "look up now at the sky and count the stars if you can. So uncountable will your descendants be." Those words, as it turns out, were prophetic. This course surveys the history, literature, beliefs and practices of the Abrahamic religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam - religions which taken together comprise over half of the world's population.
