This session examines migration patterns from Scotland beginning with the Argyll Colony of 1739 up to the mid-1850's. It also looks at the cultural, social, and economic impacts of Scottish migration from the earliest period to contemporary times.

From the 1860's until the 1950's, the nation's mail moved from city to city in special rail cars known as the Railway Post Office (RPO). In these locked cars, men postmarked and sorted letters, newspapers, and packages while the train traveled from 65 to 90 miles an hour. Known as the Railway Mail Service or RMS, over 3,500 RPOs travelled over 486 million miles while processing 20+ billion pieces of mail across the nation.
