This tour will also provide opportunities to hear about the airport's plans for the future, including commercial service, and the history of the airport. The AHN was the first civilian airport in Georgia and was home to the state’s first aviator, Ben Epps.

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a fatal prion disease in deer, moose and elk with similarities to mad cow disease and scrapies. Management of CWD is highly contentious, and misinformation is rampant across social media. We will discuss the discovery of CWD in Georgia's deer population and what it means for those populations; the future of hunting; and potential risks to human health. We will review the biology of white-tailed deer as well as strategies for minimizing disease spread in both natural and urban landscapes.

Beginning with the French and Indian War and continuing through the aftermath of the American Revolution, the class examines key political alliances, influential Cherokee leaders, and major treaties that shaped the era. From the 1860's until the 1950's, the nation's mail moved from city to city in special rail cars known as the Railway Post Office (RPO). In these locked cars, men postmarked and sorted letters, newspapers, and packages while the train traveled from 65 to 90 miles an hour. Known as the Railway Mail Service or RMS, over 3,500 RPOs travelled over 486 million miles while processing 20+ billion pieces of mail across the nation. This session will reveal the forgotten facts of the Railroad Postal Clarks and the importance of their occupation as the mail moved from large cities to small communities and connected families and friends.

Participants will tour the Complex Cloth Installation at UGA School of Social Work. The experience will roll out in three parts: 1) Jane McPherson, Associate Professor & Director of Complex Cloth, will provide an overview of the project and an introduction to the self-guided tour; 2) Participants will then take an hour to tour the installation over four floors of the old Athens Factory, including 40+ large-format visuals, short videos, and music and audio files—plus the old factory mill race and dam; 3) Participants and Dr. McPherson will gather again for Q&A and to debrief the experience.
