Franz Liszt (1811-1886) was one of the most powerful forces in classical music in the nineteenth century. His career activities included: touring concert pianist; composer; conductor; teacher; music festival organizer; and fundraiser. This class offers an introduction to these facets of Liszt's career. Live performances and recordings of his music will be presented.
Liszt's legacy as an ongoing force in today's classical music world will be celebrated in Athens October 13-16. The UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music and the UGA Performing Arts Center will host the 2024 American Liszt Festival: https://www.americanlisztsociety.net/upcoming-festival The festival is open to all.

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Georgia Museum of Natural History. The current exhibition is titled, "This Place We Call Georgia." It tells the story of Georgia's extraordinary natural history, past, present, and future. During the visit, there will be an introduction to the Museum by its Director, Bud Freeman, followed by a walking tour conducted by its Curators [e.g., Porter, corals; Wares, invertebrates; Hoebeck, insects; and Pontzer, curation). The Museum is located in the basement of the Statistics Building on Cedar Street. It is accessible to OLLI Members via parking in UGA Parking Lot S07 - Ecology.
