    The Certified Nursing Aide training program specifically targets those individuals who desire to become licensed CNAs in the state of Tennessee. The C.N.A. is a specially trained individual who works at an entry-level position under the supervision of a licensed nurse. CNAs are primarily employed at nursing homes, but may also find employment with hospitals and home health agencies. General duties are basic routine patient care, assisting with meals or exercise, taking vital signs, personal hygiene, and reporting signs and symptoms that may indicate illness. The program is divided into three components of learning, including lecture, classroom skills lab, and 16 hours of supervised patient care (clinical) in a long-term care facility.

    WSCC Program Requirements: 

    • Students must be at least 18 years of age to take this class.
    • Textbooks can be purchased at the Walters State Bookstore or at any online vendor.   **Mosby's Textbook for Nursing Assistants - Textbook and Workbook Package, 11th edition, 2025, Remmert & Sorrentino, ISBN 9780443121319.  Cost:  $123.00
    • All students attending an Allied Health program in the Division of Workforce Training are required to receive the CPR-BLS and AHA Bloodborne Pathogens certifications. The course is offered monthly at WSCC campuses.  Cost:  $80

    Clinical Site Requirements (more information will be given in class):

    • Truescreen background check.
    • 10-panel drug screen.
    • Immunization certificate with 2 MMR vaccinations or an MMR titer test showing immunity to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella.
    • TB skin test with negative results.
    • TN state competency exam paid to D&S Diversified. Cost: $140
    • Scrubs must be worn for the clinical portion of the class.  Your instructor will provide specific information about the appropriate attire for the clinical site.  Students should not purchase these items until after the first day of class.
    • Personal health insurance is encouraged.
    • HPSO.com professional liability insurance.
    • The TN state competency exam will be scheduled approximately 2-3 weeks after class and clinical have been completed.  Upon successful completion of the course, the individual will be given a Certificate of Completion and will be eligible to take the state certification exam.

    This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands on labs.

    Requirements:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • BLS for Healthcare Providers and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications. All students attending a WFT Allied Health program must have these certifications. This class is available at WSCC.  Go online to register or contact us for more information.

    As you begin your career training in the Healthcare IT Technician Program you can expect Healthcare IT Technician Online Classes which emphasize Regulatory Requirements, Electronic Health Records (EHR), Organizational Behavior, IT Operations, Medical Business Operations, Networking, and Security.

    In your Healthcare IT Technician Training, you’ll get to choose your own path for certification between a Healthcare focus or a Technical focus.     Upon completion, you’ll be eligible to sit for the Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).     The Certified Nursing Aide training program specifically targets those individuals who desire to become licensed CNAs in the state of Tennessee. The C.N.A. is a specially trained individual who works at an entry-level position under the supervision of a licensed nurse. CNAs are primarily employed at nursing homes, but may also find employment with hospitals and home health agencies. General duties are basic routine patient care, assisting with meals or exercise, taking vital signs, personal hygiene, and reporting signs and symptoms that may indicate illness.     The Board of Dentistry approved a 120-hour course. This course covers all aspects of dentistry, including, but not limited to, anatomy and physiology; tooth morphology; infection control; and restorative dentistry, along with all areas of radiology in the dental office. Students will be required to provide verification and documentation of 30 additional hours of observation at a dental office. Students are responsible for arranging their own observation experience, which must be completed by the last day of class. After completing the RDA course, students will register as Dental Assistants with the Tennessee Board of Dentistry. To meet the requirements, students must complete the RDA program, be 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, provide a completed background check, provide a copy of the BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR certification, and pay a registration fee. 

    WSCC RDA Program Requirements: Students must be 18 years of age. Provide a copy of a High School Diploma or GED. Obtain the BLS for Healthcare Providers and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications. All students attending a n/c Allied Health program in the Division of Workforce Training are required to receive the CPR-BLS and AHA Bloodborne Pathogens certifications. Walters State offers this course.  The cost is $80.

    Be at least 18 years of age.

    Possess a passport-size photograph taken within 12 months of application

    Two (2) original letters of recommendation from licensed professionals

    Copy of current CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers)

    Proof of U.S. or Canadian citizenship or evidence of being legally entitled to live in the U.S.  (e.g., copy of birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization papers, or current visa status)  All applicants must complete, sign, and have notarized the Declaration of Citizenship form and submit the documents required by the Declaration of Citizenship form.  

    A criminal background check is required.  For instructions to obtain a criminal background check, see the TN Board of Dentistry application. $15 Dental Radiology Form and $40 Application (Both of these applications are to be submitted to the state upon completing the course. Separate payments to the state are required.)

    Jurisprudence Exam Chapter 0460-05: Rule 0460-05-.03,(b) 9; General Rules Governing Schools, Programs and Courses for Dentists, Dental Hygienists, and Registered Dental Assistants: The students must be informed that any conviction must be explained to the Board of Dentistry with their application for registration and that all court documents regarding any conviction must be submitted. The Board of Dentistry reviews all court documents required to be submitted with the application for registration, and they may deny registration or require an appearance before the Board before deciding to issue or deny the registration.
