The CARES® Activities of Daily™ Living 10-Hour Online Training Program focuses on the activities of daily living (ADLs) across all levels of thinking decline, progressing from normal thinking to the first signs of dementia to the late and end stages of the disease process. In each level of decline, specific strategies are presented for a variety of ADLs including bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, mouth care, and using the bathroom. Since a lot of the direct care, you provide is related to ADLs, these thoughtful and effective strategies can be used immediately with anyone for whom you provide care.
This program has 10 modules (10 hours). The modules include:

About CARES® Dementia Certification™
CARES Dementia Certification recognizes and tests a user’s dementia understanding and dementia care knowledge. Successful completion of the exam recognizes users for being educated about dementia and for being trained and certified in person-centered dementia care practices using the CARES® Approach.

The Certified Nursing Aide training program specifically targets those individuals who desire to become licensed C.N.A.'s in the state of Tennessee. The C.N.A. is a specially trained individual who works at an entry-level position under the supervision of a licensed nurse. C.N.A.'s are primarily employed at nursing homes, but may also find employment with hospitals and home health agencies. General duties are basic routine patient care which may include assisting with meals or exercise, taking vital signs, personal hygiene, and reporting signs and symptoms that may indicate illness. The program is divided into three components of learning that include lecture, classroom skills lab and 35 hours of supervised patient care (clinical) in a long-term care facility.

The Medication Aide-Certified program is sixty (60) hours of instruction, consisting of forty (40) classroom and skill lab hours, and twenty (20) clinical hours. A 2-hour orientation will precede the first day of class. A course providing theory and applications that will prepare students for the safe administration of medications to clients in healthcare settings. The course will prepare the Certified Nursing Assistant for effective communication and interpersonal skills through basic pharmacology. The student will gain knowledge of medical terminology, medication administration, and fundamentals of body systems. Upon completion, the student will have the knowledge, skills, and ability to safely administer medications using the “Six Rights” of Medication Administration in the LTAC population. After the successful completion of the RDA course, the students will register as a Dental Assistant with the Tennessee Board of Dentistry. To meet the requirements, students must successfully complete the RDA program, be 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, provide a completed background check, provide a copy of the BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR certification and pay a registration fee.
WSCC RDA Program Requirements: Students must be 18 years of age. Provide a copy of a High School Diploma or GED. Obtain the BLS for Healthcare Providers and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications. All students attending a n/c Allied Health program in the Division of Workforce Training are required to receive the CPR-BLS and AHA Bloodborne Pathogens certifications. Walters State offers this course. The cost is $80.

TN Board of Dentistry Registration Requirements:
Successful completion of the RDA training program
A valid high school diploma or GED
Be, at least, 18 years of age.
Possess a passport-size photograph taken within 12-months of application
Two (2) original letters of recommendations from licensed professionals
Copy of current CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
Proof of U.S. or Canadian citizenship or evidence of being legally entitled to live in the U.S. (e.g., copy of birth certificate, U.S. passport, naturalization papers, or current visa status.)
A criminal background check is required. For instructions to obtain a criminal background check, see TN Board of Dentistry application. $15 Dental Radiology Form and $40 Application (Both of these applications are to be submitted to the state upon completing the course. Separate payments to the state are required.)
Jurisprudence Exam Chapter 0460-05: Rule 0460-05-.03,(b) 9; General Rules Governing Schools, Programs and Courses for Dentists, Dental Hygenists, and Registered Dental Assistant: The students must be informed that any conviction must be explained to the Board of Dentistry with their application for registration and that all court documents regarding any conviction must be submitted. The Board of Dentistry reviews all court documents required to be submitted with the application for registration and they may deny registration or require an appearance before the Board before deciding to issue or deny the registration.
