This studio-based course introduces generative prompts, collaborative text experiments, symbolic object-making, and projects that explore containment, preservation, and transformation. Students will create both permanent and intentionally temporary works using digital and mixed-media approaches. Topics include visual language, memes and logos, embedded messages, and art as time capsule. Dive into deep study of selected works by W.S. Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Mark Boyle, the FLUXUS Group and others, as well as texts from Tolkien, Rene Girard, The Surrealists, and Jean Baudrillard. Designed for creative thinkers interested in experimentation, reflection, and understanding how meaning circulates in an increasingly automated world. This course can be taken after Accidental Alchemy, or on its own—no prior experience required.

  • From Memory to History: Preserving Personal Stories for Generations to Come

    Open wooden box filled with old black and white photographs.Everyone has personal and family stories which are usually shared verbally but tend to disappear with time. This class will present approaches to recording these stories and preserving them for either personal purposes or to share with future generations. Concepts covered will include a basic introduction to history and its creation, issues of privacy and human relations, and suggestions for sharing formats. Taught by an experienced museum professional, this course invites you to turn family lore into history to be enjoyed in your lifetime and discovered by generations to come.

    A variety of plants growing harmoniously in a garden.Design your home or community garden to be in harmony with nature. This two-hour workshop offers a practical introduction to the principles and ethics of permaculture, an approach to land use and living that works with natural systems rather than against them. Rooted in whole-systems thinking, permaculture draws inspiration from the patterns and resilience found in healthy ecosystems to create sustainable landscapes, productive gardens, and thoughtful community design. Participants will explore core permaculture concepts such as observation of natural patterns, efficient use of resources, and designing spaces that support both people and the environment. You’ll learn how these principles and concepts can be applied at home to garden and live more sustainably.

    Build confidence in everyday Spanish. In this course, you'll practice essential vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversation skills for real-life situations. Depending on the interest and skills of participants, topics may include introductions, travel, dining, family, and community interactions. Along the way, you'll gain cultural insights that deepen your understanding of traditions, values, and regional differences across the Spanish-speaking world. All levels welcome.
