Art is Therapy is a gentle, supportive space to explore creativity as a tool for reflection, stress relief, and personal growth. Each week, you’ll experiment with accessible, expressive practices such as journaling, collage, doodle art, and watercolors—using simple materials to reconnect with yourself and your inner voice.
This course focuses on process over perfection. Through guided prompts and creative exercises, you’ll learn how artistic expression can support mindfulness, emotional awareness, and overall well-being.
No artistic experience is required. Come as you are, create at your own pace, and leave with meaningful projects and practices you can continue using long after the class ends.
Note: This class is for personal enrichment and is not a substitute for professional therapy.

- Childbirth Education

Prepare for childbirth with confidence in this one-day class designed to equip expectant parents with practical knowledge and skills for pregnancy, labor, and early parenting. Topics include the stages of labor, pain management options such as breathing techniques, relaxation methods, and medical interventions, the birthing process, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding basics, and newborn care. The class also explores the emotional and physical changes of pregnancy and postpartum while encouraging informed decision-making and effective communication with healthcare providers. Led by certified childbirth educator and trauma-informed doula Mandy Webb Hancock, this supportive class helps reduce anxiety and promotes a positive birth experience.

This course is eligible to be paid for by Washington Apple Health through the First Steps program. You must be enrolled in WA Apple Health pregnancy medical coverage when you register, and when you take the class.

The flagger training course uses the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) curriculum. It will give you the opportunity to work as a certified flagger and be listed on the National Flagger Database. You'll earn a certification valid for three (3) years in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana, as well as a national certification that will allow you to work in all other states.
As a trained flagger, you will be able to establish proper warning and traffic control in a work zone to assure the safety of workers and to ensure traffic moves safely and consistently.
Registration fee includes book, test, and flagger certification cards.
Course Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age at the time of the class.
- Must have picture ID to present on the day of class.
- Must pass test with 80% or better to obtain certification. Must pay in full to retake.
- Must arrive no later than 7:55 am to be admitted. Entrance is prohibited after 8:00 am.

- Home Grooming and Basic Health Care for Dogs

This four-week community education course is designed to empower dog owners with practical, real world skills to care for their dogs safely at home. Students will learn foundational grooming techniques, basic pet health care awareness, first aid and CPR fundamentals, how to evaluate and communicate with pet care professionals, and how to recognize when veterinary care is necessary. The course emphasizes safety, advocacy, confidence, and realistic expectations for home care. Taught by a licensed groomer and lifelong dog lover, this course will help you feel more confident about caring for your dog's needs at home.
This class is educational in nature and does not provide certification or replace professional veterinary, grooming, or training services.
Course registration fees include supplies. Please provide your dog's breed or a photo of your dog by emailing ce@ghc.edu as soon as possible before class to ensure that the grooming supplies are appropriate for your pet.
Please leave your dog at home. Several gentle, friendly service dogs will be in attendance to pet and practice on.

Through hands-on assignments, group discussion, and supportive critique, students will gain confidence, explore what types of photography resonate with them, and develop a more intentional approach to making images.

- Plein Air Painting

Discover the art of painting outdoors in this four-week introduction to plein air painting, a tradition that inspired generations of landscape artists and Impressionist painters. Designed for all skill levels, this hands-on course combines art history, practical instruction, and creative exploration as you learn to observe and capture the beauty of the natural world. Students will explore basic landscape painting techniques while developing a painting both in and outside of class. Along the way, you'll learn how to set up a portable painting practice, refine your work over time, and find inspiration in the landscapes around you. The course concludes with a relaxed reception and art sharing session where participants can celebrate their finished paintings together.

- Screenwriting for Beginners

Before “lights, camera, action!” there’s the blueprint of filmmaking: the script. In this introductory course, students will explore the fundamentals of writing for the screen and learn how a strong script becomes the foundation of a successful film. Students will also be introduced to standard screenplay formatting and some tools used by working screenwriters. Whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker, a storyteller curious about writing for film, or simply interested in how movies are made, this class provides a supportive environment to begin developing your ideas and turning them into compelling scripts.
