Most of our instructors are current/past board members of the Adult Family Home Council of Washington State. The class is strongly suggested for Resident Managers but is not required.     • Students must register using their legal first/last name to receive a DSHS Certificate of Completion after successfully completing the course.

    • Students must provide a valid photo ID card on the first day of class.

    • DSHS requires 54 hours of training to receive the AFH Administrator Training Certificate.  Students must attend all class sessions.

     

    AFH Admin Online Classes 

    • Desktop or Laptop is required for online learning.  Cellphones & Tablets are not allowed as students will be unable to complete required assignments and access Canvas properly. 
    • They are held using Zoom & Canvas. Canvas is Highline College's student learning platform.  Students will be required before the 1st day of class to set up their Highline Canvas account.  Instructions to set up your Canvas account will be emailed 7-10 days before class begins. The activation letter will be sent to the email address you included in your registration.

Diabetes adds significantly to the difficulty of caregiving in long-term care settings, with complications related to insulin management, nutrition, exercise, and skincare among other issues.     MHFAYouth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.
