Recruiting, Hiring, Training and Retaining Telecommunications Staff (Online)   

This is an independent study, self-paced course.

This convenient, online training will provide you with information to improve the challenging process of recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining telecommunicators. We will examine effective ways to recruit applicants, develop and maintain a consistent hiring process, standardize your new employee training program, and create a work environment in which employees want to stay for many years.

You will acquire creative ways to recruit potential applicants, including social media, career/job fairs, referrals, and examples of effective hiring processes. We will also discuss what can and cannot be asked during the interview process. You will learn how to develop and maintain a high-quality training program using Daily Observation Reports (DOR), Standardized Evaluation Guidelines (SEG), and training checklists. We will also share ways to improve and maintain morale and retain employees for the long term.

The course will provide you techniques and strategies to implement at your agency that will result in positive changes. These techniques and strategies can be used to develop policy and will provide a blueprint for standardization, consistency, and processes that will allow you to maintain your staffing levels.

Online Details

Online environment: This is an independent study, self-paced course. Although there are no specific times that you must be online, you will be required to complete assignments by the deadlines posted within the course. You should plan to dedicate approximately eight (8) hours to the course activities. You must be committed to the course and invest the time necessary for successful completion.

Instructors are available to answer your questions during each module via the help forum. The course must be completed within 30 days upon registration. Once the 30-day period has ended, you may no longer have access and be required to re-enroll. Additional fees may apply.

Computer requirements: You will complete the course entirely online. A dependable broadband internet connection with a Windows or Mac computer and Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download) are required.

Schedule Changes

This schedule is subject to change without notice. If you have not received an official confirmation email prior to the first day of class, please contact us at (904) 620-4786 or info@iptm.org before traveling or making airline reservations.

Registration and Fees

Full payment must accompany all registrations. You may register online and pay with your Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express credit card, or you may download a Registration Form and mail it to IPTM with a check.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Complete the Cancellation Request Form and return it to IPTM. No telephone cancellations will be accepted. A 20% administrative fee will be assessed to all refunds if the cancellation request is received within 14 days of the course start date. In lieu of a refund, student substitutions can be made or a credit can be issued for a future course. No refunds will be given for no-shows. If materials for an online course were sent to the student, the appropriate materials and shipping costs will be deducted from the refund amount. Materials may be returned to IPTM in their original condition at the student's expense. Once IPTM has received and inspected them, the refund will be processed.

Due to the automated format of online independent study courses and Videos on Demand (VoDs), no refunds or substitutions can be made after registration.

Course Confirmations

A minimum number of registrations must be received for an in-person class to run as scheduled. When the minimum criterion has been met, written confirmation will be emailed to you. Please do not travel or make airline reservations until you receive written notification confirming that the course will run as scheduled.

Transportation and Lodging

Most locations are served by several major airlines. Transportation, food and lodging are the responsibility of the student.
