    A hands-on filmmaking workshop for actors, writers and directors to bring stories to the screen. Students get the opportunity to share their work as part of a Student Film showcase in the spring. This quarter students are introduced to film production with guest filmmaker Mark Schwartz and Dr. Lara Starcevich. Students learn about storytelling, technical skills, and the collaborative nature of filmmaking, often through hands-on projects and lab experiences.

    Learning Outcomes:

    Fundamental outcomes of the course include: taking an initial idea through all of the stages of development--pre-production, production, and post-production.

    Prepare for the FAA Private Pilot Written Exam, a key milestone toward earning your pilot’s license. You’ll also learn about different paths in aviation—from careers in commercial flight to recreational flying, gliders, and homebuilt aircraft—and get guidance on how to schedule an introductory flight lesson to see if the cockpit feels like home.

    Beginner-friendly, hands-on class introduces basic techniques of quilting and is excellent for people with little to no prior sewing experience. Students will learn the process of fabric selection and preparation, accurate measuring and rotary cutting, and piecing using their own sewing machine. The course will cover the essential steps to create a lap-size quilt, while providing a solid foundation for future quilting adventures. All levels of experience are welcome.     Zen is an ancient way of life that emphasizes being more present to what is happening, moment after moment. In this gentle, interactive class you will learn about bringing the spirit of Zen mindfulness to your daily activities and in focused meditation.

    Zen Buddhism developed over centuries in China, Japan, and Korea, but is now practiced around the world. In this gentle introductory class the emphasis will be on the spirit of Zen, through lectures, in-class guided meditations, short films and readings, and mindfulness practices to try at home.

    Student Learning Outcomes: Students will know more about Zen and mindfulness, and will have simple, supportive ways to bring more mindfulness to daily life.

    Wilderness First Aid (WFA) is a great option for those seeking a short, but thorough introduction to recognizing emergencies and practicing lifesaving skills for someone sick or injured, and who tend to have short visits to resource-limited environments where definitive care (i.e., an ambulance, clinic or hospital) is less than a day away.

    • System for assessing a patient
    • Recognizing emergencies and calling for help
    • Stopping a bleed
    • CPR
    • Moving a patient
    • Musculoskeletal and spine injuries and splinting

    Certification is through Wilderness Medical Associates Internation. Certification is valid for 3 years and includes Adult CPR following AHA/ILCOR standards. To re-certify consider upgrading to a Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR), or take another WFA course before your cert expires.

    Thwaaack!! The sound of an arrow hitting the target, hopefully the 10 ring! Target archery can be enjoyed in a wide variety of ways, from a meditative part of your day all the way to Olympic competition. This class is designed to get students started on what ever archery path they choose.

    This class will be hands on, always! Hands on training aids, bows, arrows, targets, range set up will all be part of the class. There will be next to zero talking head time!

    We will use basic recurve bows with low draw weight to learn shot mechanics and range procedures. Toward the end of class, student questions about purchasing their own equipment would be addressed. All equipment are provided.

    Student Learning Outcomes:

    • Be able to identify the parts of a recurve bow and an arrow.
    • Be able to follow archery safety procedures.
    • Follow archery range rules.
    • Respond to 4 different whistle commands while on the range.
    • Commit to memory, and practice the 11 steps to archery success.

    Learn to decipher various forms of fine art printmaking and produce images in relief, intaglio, and monotype.     Did you know that there are more than 1500 active volcanoes on the Earth's surface, and twice as many beneath the ocean? These volcanoes cause around 540 deaths every year, which equates to over one million deaths in the past 2000 years.

    This course will focus on the supervolcanoes that have had a profound effect on human history, including the evolution of our species, the downfall of ancient civilizations, and the chilling effects on the earth’s climate system. Along the way, we will take a brief look at the science of volcanology, including the types of volcanoes, and the volcanic hazards that such eruptions unleash.

    Also included is a hands-on volcanic rock lab. Students may bring food and drink to class.

The WFR certification is a common requirement for outdoor professionals including those working in adventure guiding, ecotourism, search & rescue and more. Do you already have your WFR and need re-certification?     This 5-day hybrid option (as opposed to the traditional 7-10 day WFR) is best for those who can commit to intensive pre-course study which introduces all the general concepts needed before the 5-days of on-site review and hands-on practice in class. The 5 days in class involve intensive patient assessment drills, practice scenarios, simulated events with extensive debriefs and case studies. There is increased emphasis on prolonged patient care/monitoring, critical thinking and evacuation decisions. It is recommended that students register two to three weeks prior to the course to ensure adequate time to complete the e-learning section. 

    Open to students 18 years of age and older.

    Recertify your Wilderness First Responder (WFR) in this Hybrid course! WFR is the worldwide standard in wilderness medical education and is a great choice for those regularly adventuring or working in remote environments. The WFR certification is a common requirement for outdoor professionals including those working in adventure guiding, ecotourism, search & rescue and more. If you do not have a current WFR, consider signing up for the full WFR course

    This Hybrid course includes a required e-learning section with at least 12 hours of interactive online learning followed by 16 hours of in-person learning over two days. The e-learning section includes interactive learning modules with videos, readings, self-practice assignments, quizzes, and case studies. It is recommended that students register two to three weeks prior to the course to ensure adequate time to complete the e-learning section. 

    Open to adults 18 years and older. Certification is through Wilderness Medical Associates International. Certification is valid for 3 years and includes Adult, child and infant CPR following AHA/ILCOR standards. To re-certify take the WFR Recert course or a repeat WFR course before your cert expires.

    Try Tai Chi, a "soft" martial art that naturally reduces stress while improving circulation, balance, health, and more.

    Healing Tai Chi has been practiced for thousands of years by many Asian cultures. The practice of these "soft" movement may have numerous health benefits, including an increased sense of relaxation, improved blood flow, muscle tone, and better balance. The course includes demonstrations and exercises; students will have lots of practice performing Tai Chi forms and Tai Chi fan.

    Students 14 years and older may enroll if accompanied by a parent or adult guardian over 18 registered and participating in the same class.
