Classroom presentations will be followed with an extensive field trip to important geological sites (Dungeness Spit, Hurricane Ridge, and Tongue Point). Students will view not only the natural beauty of the region, but also see first-hand the rocks and geological structures and landforms of the area. We'll also look at tide pools at Tongue Point, and we have often seen black bears along Hurricane Ridge Road. Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the worldwide standard in wilderness medical education and is a great choice for those regularly adventuring or working in remote environments. The WFR certification is a common requirement for outdoor professionals including those working in adventure guiding, ecotourism, search & rescue and more. Certification is offered through Wilderness Medical Associates International (WMA). Do you already have your WFR and need re-certification? Learn about upcoming WFR Recertification courses.
More Information
This 5-day hybrid option (as opposed to the traditional 7-10 day WFR) is best for those who can commit to intensive pre-course study which introduces all the general concepts needed before the 5-days of on-site review and hands-on practice in class. The 5 days in class involve intensive patient assessment drills, practice scenarios, simulated events with extensive debriefs and case studies. There is increased emphasis on prolonged patient care/monitoring, critical thinking and evacuation decisions. It is recommended that students register two to three weeks prior to the course to ensure adequate time to complete the e-learning section.
Open to students 18 years of age and older.

- Critical body systems
- System for assessing a patient
- Recognizing emergencies and calling for help
- Stopping a bleed, CPR
- Moving a patient
- Musculoskeletal and spine injuries and splinting

The 100% Totally Improvised Musical! This fall, join the silliness when IMPROV meets a LIVE BAND!
Whether acting or technical theater is your passion, REGISTER for drama at Peninsula College and become a part of the team that produces the 100% TOTALLY IMPROVISED MUSICAL! Students enrolled in this course study the history of theater along with the stagecraft of how to produce live theater from the standpoint of the actor, designer, and playwright.
Students are invited to audition for the Musical and attend. Rehearsal times are generally 5 - 7pm, twice a week. Specific days will be finalized once the show is cast.
Student Learning Objectives:
- Apply Aristotle’s six traditional parts of drama: plot, character, theme, diction, music, and spectacle in relation to excerpts from several significant plays/films.
- List and explain traits that theatre shares with other kinds of performance.
- Describe the basic process of script development and key elements of plot structure.
- Apply basic performance skills, with a focus on “honesty” in character development and action.
- Explain how design and technical production areas enhance and support a performance.
- List and explain traits of theatre itself including configurations and stage shapes.

Interested in developing your poetry? This traditional poetry workshop, aimed specifically at peer-critique and navigating online submission platforms, will introduce you to methods of the creative writing workshop, develop an engaged writing community, and provide you with the tools to get your poems published!
By gathering a community of aspiring local writers, exploring the formal elements of successful poems, and emphasizing the methods of the traditional peer-centered writing workshop, this course will engage participants in the refinement of their poetry. With particular attention paid to the processes by which poems come to be published in regional and national literary magazines, this course is for the emerging and enthusiastic poet looking to get their work our into the world. Outside of the formal workshop, we will discuss the various online methods of submitting unpublished work, the particulars of choosing where to send one's work, and the nuances of interfacing with editorial staff. Thwaaack!! The sound of an arrow hitting the target, hopefully the 10 ring! Target archery can be enjoyed in a wide variety of ways, from a meditative part of your day all the way to Olympic competition. This class is designed to get students started on what ever archery path they choose.
This class will be hands on, always! Hands on training aids, bows, arrows, targets, range set up will all be part of the class. There will be next to zero talking head time!
We will use basic recurve bows with low draw weight to learn shot mechanics and range procedures. We hope you can attend every class, but the first class is essential to gain the basics needed to proceed with the course. Toward the end of class, student questions about purchasing their own equipment would be addressed.

Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) builds on everything found in the WFA course with increased emphasis on stabilizing and monitoring someone sick or injured over a longer duration of time, when definitive care (i.e., an ambulance, clinic or hospital) could be more than a few hours or even more than a day away. The WAFA allows time for more intensive patient assessment drills, practice scenarios and case studies.
Specific topics include:
- Critical body systems
- System for assessing a patient
- Recognizing emergencies and calling for help
- Stopping a bleed, CPR

- Musculoskeletal and spine injuries and splinting

Learn the versatile Brick-Stitch bead weaving method while creating a unique pair of earrings in this hands-on workshop with experienced instructor and Cherokee artist Karen Sixkiller. First learn the basics of Brick-Stitch on large Pony beads, then start your project with standard size 11 seed beads. Finish with a jump ring and earring hooks.

Zines are hand-made easy to photocopy mini booklets. They have historically been a way for marginalized groups to create stories and publish art and ideas. This class will show you how to make your own while providing accessible ways to get your artistic voice heard.
In this class we will create zines based on a theme utilizing one 8.5x11 piece of printer paper divided into eighths and a variety of multi-media mediums (collage, pens, pencils etc.) We will then demonstrate how to scan and prepare your zines for mass printing.

Try Tai Chi, a moving meditation that naturally reduces stress while improving circulation, balance, health, and more.
Healing Tai Chi has been practiced for thousands of years by many Asian cultures. The practice of these "soft" movement may have numerous health benefits, including an increased sense of relaxation, improved blood flow, muscle tone, and better balance. The course includes demonstrations and exercises; students will have lots of practice performing Tai Chi forms and Tai Chi stretches
Students 14 years and older may enroll if accompanied by a parent or adult guardian over 18 registered and participating in the same class.
