  • The University of Georgia is establishing a new, independent School of Medicine, building on the success of the Augusta University / University of Georgia Medical Partnership, which has been educating physicians in Athens since 2010. Building a healthier Georgia starts by establishing a new, public medical school to train more doctors, provide more opportunities for students, and discover more ways to improve lives. This session will provide an overview, timeline, and need for the new school; brief history of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership and Health Sciences Campus; and an update on the new medical education and research building.

  • Dr. Harvey will describe his early teenage experiences of living in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia and his childhood years in the Bukovina region of Romania, once the easternmost area of the Austrian monarchy. He will also discuss his 3 periods as a refugee, culminating in his leaving Europe for the U.S. under the auspices of the Displaced Persons Program.
