Offered in partnership with the Woodbury School of Business at Utah Valley University, the Human Resources Management Professional Certificate Program helps prepare students for successful careers in the field of Human Resources and provides students with knowledge and skills in Human Resources Operations, Strategic Management, Human Resources Law, Diversity & Inclusion, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Training & Development, Performance Management, Employee Engagement, Employee Relations & Risk, Organizational Development, and Change Management.

Session 1 :: Human Resource Operations
|
|
This session introduces the fundamental elements of human resources and links them to typical management functions, including the role that human resources plays in supporting managers and the common challenges they face.

Session 2 :: Strategic Human Resources
|
|
This session explores aligning HRM and business strategies, including overall HRM infrastructure design and enabling optimal employee performance to achieve competitive advantage. The techniques, policies, processes, strategies, and practices that effectively and efficiently utilize human resources are explored.

Session 3 :: Human Resources Law, Diversity & Inclusion
|
|
This session focuses on major human resource laws that provide a framework for creating equal opportunity in an organization. Additionally, best practices and trends in the area of diversity and inclusion will be defined.

Session 4 :: Talent Acquisition
|
|
This session introduces conceptual and practical strategic decisions related staffing organizations. Topics include: the impact of environmental conditions on planning and staffing; job analysis; employer branding & recruitment; selection via competency-based interviewing & candidate testing, including measurement issues; job offering and placement; onboarding; retention; and succession planning.

Session 5 :: Total Rewards
|
|
This session provides an overview of total reward systems, including wages and salary, pay for performance, and benefits systems. Topics include: the interrelationship among employee performance, intrinsic and extrinsic rewards, perceived equitable payments, and employee satisfaction; employee benefits; and employee incentive programs.

Session 6 :: Training & Development
|
|
This session provides exposure to the major topics in training and development. Topics include: the function of training and development in an organization; basic learning processes; assessment of training needs; designing and implementing training programs; and evaluating training programs.

Session 7 :: Performance Management & Employee Engagement
|
|
This session introduces the conceptual and practical strategic decisions that support optimal performance of employees via meaningful performance evaluations. Topics include: valid performance expectations; performance appraisals; employee feedback for development purposes; and performance management.

Session 8 :: Employee Relations & Risk
|
|
This session provides an overview of the importance of employee relations as it relates to overall company culture, employee motivation and the impact that both have on the bottom line. Through the application of motivational theory, the “people” side of employees and how to improve or maintain a healthy and productive employer/ employee relationship is explored.

Session 9 :: Organizational Development & Change Mangement
|
|
This session introduces the process of organizational development and how companies ensure their workforces meet current and future needs, including company interventions and programs focused on organizational change, performance management, training and development, career development, and other unique employee or group needs.

Session 10 :: Networking, Final Presentations & Certificate Awards
|
|
The final session will provide strategies and tips for professional networking. Students will also have an opportunity to present their final projects.

Jaron Harvey PhD
Dr. Jaron Harvey serves as Assistant Professor of Organizational Leadership in the Woodbury School of Business at UVU. He previously served as an Assistant Professor of Management at Kansas State University, at the University of Wyoming, and at the University of Alabama, where he taught Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, and Negotiations. His research areas include Employee Engagement, Work-Nonwork Balance, Team Conflict, and Underemployment. His work has been published and cited in various industry journals and magazines, including Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Management, Career Development International, and many others.
Jaron earned his PhD in Organizational Behavior & Human Resource Management from the University of Oklahoma and his BS in International Business from Utah Valley University.

Rod Lacey MBA
Rod Lacey serves as a Professional in Residence of Organizational Leadership & Human Resources Management in the Woodbury School of Business at UVU. He also serves as Global VP of People at Talkdesk and as Consultant at Sunstone HR Consulting. He previously served as Chief People Officer & VP of HR at 1-800 Contacts, Director of HR at IdeaSphere, VP of HR at Melaleuca, and as Senior HR Manager at Idaho State University. He is a Birkman Certified Professional (BCP), and has earned his SHRM – SCP and SPHR professional credentials in HR Management.
Rod earned his MBA in Management Communications & Marketing, and his BA in Management HR & Labor Relations, at Idaho State University, and completed the Advanced Human Resources Executive Program at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.

LynnAnn Erickson MBA
LynnAnn Erickson serves as a faculty member for Organizational Leadership in the Woodbury School of Business at UVU. She also serves as a College Relations Committee Member at the Utah SHRM State Council. She previously served as Office Manager of Finish Grade Engineering, and as FMLA / ADA Specialist, Training Department Supervisor, and Product Release / Quality Assurance Coordinator at Nestle USA.
LynnAnn earned her MBA from Utah State University, and her BA from Utah Valley University, in Business Administration and Management.
