Program Overview |
The Principles of Software testing course is an excellent hands-on learning experience designed to launch a career in manual software testing. Learn skills that can open doors to the tech industry from professionals with years of practical experience. You will gain the expertise, credibility, and confidence to take control of your career. This course will guide participants through a comprehensive curriculum, providing them with the knowledge and skills required to enter and advance in the software development industry as manual testers. At the completion of this course, participants will be able to develop a test plan, design, implement and execute software test cases using a variety of testing methodologies, and evaluate and report on the results of their tests. This course is a great fit for participants looking to jump into the tech industry by providing an in-depth examination of software testing skills. Basic digital literacy skills are required for this course.

Learning Outcomes |
At the completion of this course students should be able to develop a test plan, design, implement and execute software test cases using a variety of testing methodologies, and evaluate and report on the results of their tests. Students will work with several different types of tests and testing environments and will understand through case studies how to apply these to real life testing situations. They will be able to use risk analysis techniques to decide what to test and how to know when their testing is complete enough to ship a product with acceptable risk.

This class is not a credited course, we do not give grades outside of pass/fail at the course’s conclusion. Though homework and assignments won’t count towards your final grade, the work included in them will be invaluable to your success and understanding of the topics we discuss.

Brett Barker
Brett Barker serves as Learning and Development Specialist at Verisk Insurance Solutions. He previously served as Quality Assurance and Testing Manager at Xactware Solutions. He has also served as an Associate Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer and SQA Analyst at Symantec.
Daniel Bean
Daniel Bean serves as Scrum Master at Overstock.com. He previously served as Scrum Master and Quality Assurance Tester for Medici Ventures. He has also previously served as Mobile Application Tester/Quality Assurance for Xactware.
Daniel Bean earned his AS degree in Computer Science from Snow College.
