Participants in this program prepare to sit for the SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® designation exam. The course includes current HR topics, such as talent acquisition and retention, employee development and engagement, compliance and risk management, HR strategic planning, and more.
Based on standards developed by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM®), obtaining this professional credential prepares students to successfully deliver current and effective solutions to real-world problems and issues. Participants develop the competency and expertise to take on greater responsibility on their teams and more advanced leadership roles in HR management.

This program is designed for Human Resource Management Managers and Professionals currently working in the field as generalists, or as specialists in project planning, scheduling, delivery, reporting, etc. looking to accelerate their careers by preparing and taking the SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® certification exam. Students currently enrolled and individuals pursuing a career in Human Resource Management will also benefit from this program. To be eligible for the SHRM-CP® and SHRM-SCP® exams, you must meet specific educational and work experience criteria at the time you submit your application. Program Schedule |
The Program is hosted over Zoom and consists of 12 sessions scheduled for 3.5 hours each held every Wednesday from 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm for 12 weeks, for a total of 42 hours of instruction. Sessions are presented in an interactive format that enables participants to easily engage with the instructor and other participants. All sessions are recorded and made available to participants unable to attend. |
Session 1 :: Introduction & People (Area 2) |
This session will be an introduction to SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® Certifications. Talent Aquisition will also be covered. |
Session 2 :: People (Areas 2 & 3) |
This session will complete the discussion of Talent Aquisition and cover Employee Engagement and Retention |
Session 3 :: People (Areas 3 & 4) |
This session will continue the discussion of Employee Engagement and Retention and cover Learning and Development |
Session 4 :: People (Areas 4 & 5) |
This session will complete the area of Learning and Development and discuss Total Rewards |
Session 5 :: People (Area 5) & Organization (Area 6) |
This session will complete Total Rewards and cover Structure of the HR Function |

Instructor Bio |
Connie Barker Project Manager | ADP
Dr. Connie Barker PhD MA PMP SHRM-SCP GPHR SHPR CEBS CMS FP–C serves as Adjunct Faculty in Executive Education at UVU. She also serves as Regional Project Manager of GlobalView Americas Project Services at ADP. She previously served as Supervisor of System Performance and as Implementation Consultant at ADP, as Data Manager with Galton Technologies, and as Quality Assurance Software Tester for Novell. She also served as Adjunct Instructor at Columbia College teaching courses in Compensation, Benefit Systems, and Workforce Planning and Employment.
Connie earned her PhD in Organization & Management from Capella University, her MA degree in HR Management, Training & Development from Webster University, and earned two BS degrees in Computer Science Information Systems and Business Management from Utah Valley University.
