The art movements of impressionism, post-impressionism, expressionism, and beyond are some of the most influential movements on art and how we know it today!
Spend a week learning about some of these famous artists, such as Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, and Georges Seurat, by diving into what made their paintings unique and trying out those techniques ourselves!
Wear your painting clothes!
Day 1: Claude Monet, Oil Pastels
Using oil pastels, create a scene in likeness to Monet’s Japanese Bridge scene. Focus on his color palette, small brush strokes, and subject matter!
Day 2: Vincent van Gogh, Acrylic Paint
Use acrylics to create a pot of flowers in likeness to van Gogh’s sunflowers! Focus on his short brush strokes and thick paint application.
Day 3: Georges Seurat, Oil Pastels
Master pointillism, the technique of painting from tons of little dots that impressionists like Seurat were famous for, using oil pastels! Create a scene in likeness to Seurat’s color palette and using his technique.
Day 4: Henri Matisse, Paper Cut Outs
Jumping to Matisse and his contribution to expressionism, learn about his funky use of color, line, and shape through creating our own collage cut out.
