Have fun while you watercolor in the sun at Capitol Reef National Park! Discover what to look for before you start a painting, how to set up a painting using composition and balance, and how to work with the water to improve your painting style. A mandatory pre-trip planning meeting will be held one week prior to the trip. Food and lodging will be provided. Transportation is not provided.
Please bring the following supplies:
- Watercolor Paper: Bring and use your favorite brand of watercolor paper. Pre cut it into the sizes needed for plein air painting. I would trim it no larger than 12”X 16”. You will most likely use up 6 sheets, maybe as many as 8 sheets of paper.
- Watercolor Paint: You may use any brand of paint that you prefer. I like to use a primary and secondary layout of color in my palette. That would include the colors Red, Yellow, and Blue, Orange, Green, and Violet. Have them pre laid out in a palette of your choosing.
- Plastic Palette, kind of your choosing.
- Brushes: Bring with you a variety of brushes, of different sizes, both round and flat ferruled. Please be sure that they are true watercolor brushes.
- Water Containers: Bring 2 plastic water containers to hold your water for painting.
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Tape
- Board to mount your sheet of watercolor paper on
- Portable or Folding Chair, as you will be outside working, and might want to sit down for your work.
- Portable Table to set your palette, water containers, and brushes on
- Note Book for taking notes
- Camera
- Proper clothing that will protect you against the elements, including a good hat
- The means to be able to carry these things to a remote location, away from your car.
Ages: 18+
