American Sign Language (ASL) is a rich, expressive, and complete language and this six-session beginner course gives you a genuine introduction to using it. Meeting twice a week over three weeks, you'll build practical signing and fingerspelling skills across a broad range of everyday vocabulary and conversational situations, from greetings and family to food, weather, places, and time.
Just as importantly, you'll develop an understanding of Deaf culture and why cultural awareness is every bit as essential as the language itself. Respectful, meaningful communication with the Deaf community goes beyond vocabulary and this course addresses both from the very first session.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate foundational ASL communication skills by accurately fingerspelling the manual alphabet, using numbers 1-100, and signing common vocabulary related to daily life topics including family, food, clothing, places, and time expressions.

Mosaics have decorated walls, floors, and public spaces for thousands of years. Working on a 12x12 flat panel, move through the complete mosaic process from layout and tile cutting through attachment and setting, building practical skills at every stage. A brief look at the history of mosaics and how they have been used across cultures adds context and inspiration to your own creative work.
Most students complete their mosaic within the three sessions and take it home ready to display. All materials provided.

1. Master fundamental sewing techniques, get familiar with your sewing machine, read commercial patterns, and execute seams, hems, casings, ruffles, and buttonholes .

3. Express creativity with fabric selection – choose fabrics that match your vision, customize your projects, and bring your personal style to life through sewing.

Supply List:
- Sewing machine with bobbin
Basic sewing kit which includes:fabric shears
- pins & pin cushion
- hand sewing needles
- measuring tape
- seam gauge
- seam ripper
- Neutral color all purpose sewing thread (white tan or gray).
- We will most likely start on the pillowcase the first class. You can wait to bring the other fabrics until we learn about fabric selection and how to read pattern envelopes.
For the Pillowcase:
- ¾ yard cotton woven fabric
- 1/3 yard coordinating print for top band.
- Optional trim like rick rack 1 ¼ yard for each pillowcase.
- All purpose thread to match.
(Double the amounts to 1 ½ and 2/3 if you want to make a set of 2 standard pillowcases.)

PJ Pants will be your second project and we will talk about sizes, patterns and how to get fabric before you need to bring it. Don’t pay full price for a sewing pattern.
