Over the past 250 years, the inland town of Spartanburg has seen several economies rise and fall, from iron and livestock to cotton and peaches, to textiles and railroads. Through lecture and discussion, this class will revisit these eras, leading to an in-depth look at the modern economy: diversified manufacturing, warehousing, and nascent white-collar employment. Along the way, we'll meet some of the job creators who fueled these trends.
