The WoCo Lifelong Learning Wine Club is for those who wish to taste and learn more about wines, wine regions, and wine appreciation. The Wine Club usually meets on the third Thursday of the month during our 8-week terms (Fall and Spring) at 4:00 p.m. Meetings are held via Zoom or in-person at locations around the Spartanburg area.
March 21: Via ZOOM - Argentina / Uruguay: we will taste and discuss wines from the regions of Mendoza and Salta and consider the impact of dramatically high elevation on the cultivation and blending of such wines. We hope to sample some wines or grapes that are possibly less familiar to us (Malbec, Tannat, Torrontés) and we would also like to highlight remarkably successful women winemakers in each region.
April 18: Via ZOOM – Select a sparkling wine from the Old World (France, Spain, Austria) and one from the New World (Australia, USA, Argentina). As you/we taste, let’s be attentive to the soft “hiss” as the bottle is opened, the colors and regions of the wines, and the “bubbles” of the wine.
Our theme: Think of it like a science experiment that needs a control variant. We will taste light-colored sparkling wines from different regions (Champagne, Spain, Germany, Italy) and try to be attentive to wine temperature, glass style, and food accompaniment.
May 16: at Bond Street Wines, Morgan Square.
It is springtime, flowers are blooming, the sun is shining and there is no better time to appreciate rosé wines – both domestic and international. For this culminating club session Jeff House, Alex Brevik and the entire team at Bond Street Wines will offer an informative session on rosé, its regions, tastes, grapes, and pleasures. There will of course be some delicious food pairings to accompany the wines at a modest added cost of $25 and participation in this event is for Lifelong Learning Wine Club members only.
