Welcome to Lifelong Learning at Wofford Spring Term March 18-May 10. Registration for the Spring termbegins February 13 at 9 a.m. Download Spring 2024 Term Flyer > Clubs, Events and Trips > Clubs

Our clubs are a fun and unique way for members to get to know each other outside of the classroom. Clubs are created by members for members and are free to join and participate. Sometimes a club will decide to go to a winery or movie together and there may also be costs to buy books or wine or rent movies online. You can choose to attend all club events or pick and choose. No one is taking roll! Currently, our clubs are only active during our two eight-week terms in the Fall and Spring. Joining puts you on a roster so that you can be reminded of events and provided with additional information from our volunteer hosts.

  • WoCo LLL Book Club
  • Fee: No charge for Annual Members
    Location: Online, ZOOM
    Coordinator: Ana Maria Wiseman

Book club will continue to meet the second Monday of the month at 4 p.m. in Hybrid form - BOTH in person at CUMC and via ZOOM. This format allows friends from across the country to join other book lovers to do what we all love to do, READ and discuss what we have read.

This Spring the Book Club will read three books on the list of banned books found on the Freedom to Read SC Coalition on the League of Women Voters South Carolina website. We want to explore what might be the reason the books have been banned and where they have been banned. Are there any reasons these books should remain on reading lists? On library shelves? What is the literary value of these books?

    Please join us to discuss:

Monday, March 11 - Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer

Monday April 8 – The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

Monday, May 13 - I Am Not your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sanchez

  • WoCo LLL Wine Club
  • Fee: No charge for Annual Members
    Location: Online, ZOOM
Coordinator: Ana Maria Wiseman, Dennis Wiseman

The WoCo Lifelong Learning Wine Club is for those who wish to taste and learn more about wines, wine regions, and wine appreciation. The Wine Club usually meets on the third Thursday of the month during our 8-week terms (Fall and Spring) at 4:00 p.m. Meetings are held via Zoom or in-person at locations around the Spartanburg area.

March 21: Via ZOOM - Argentina / Uruguay: we will taste and discuss wines from the regions of Mendoza and Salta and consider the impact of dramatically high elevation on the cultivation and blending of such wines. We hope to sample some wines or grapes that are possibly less familiar to us (Malbec, Tannat, Torrontés) and we would also like to highlight remarkably successful women winemakers in each region.

April 18: Via ZOOM – Select a sparkling wine from the Old World (France, Spain, Austria) and one from the New World (Australia, USA, Argentina). As you/we taste, let’s be attentive to the soft “hiss” as the bottle is opened, the colors and regions of the wines, and the “bubbles” of the wine.

Our theme: Think of it like a science experiment that needs a control variant. We will taste light-colored sparkling wines from different regions (Champagne, Spain, Germany, Italy) and try to be attentive to wine temperature, glass style, and food accompaniment.

May 16: at Bond Street Wines, Morgan Square.

It is springtime, flowers are blooming, the sun is shining and there is no better time to appreciate rosé wines – both domestic and international.  For this culminating club session Jeff House, Alex Brevik and the entire team at Bond Street Wines will offer an informative session on rosé, its regions, tastes, grapes, and pleasures. There will of course be some delicious food pairings to accompany the wines at a modest added cost of $25 and participation in this event is for Lifelong Learning Wine Club members only.

  • WoCo A-LLL-In Social Club
  • Fee: No charge for Annual Members
    Location: TBA, TBA
    Coordinator: Vicki Banks

The A-LLL-In Social Club is like no other club you've ever joined. Sign up for free as a member and you will be added to an open email group that will post various social opportunities for LLL to get together. These outings will be hosted by LLL members looking for others interested in exploring the area. Movies, concerts, restaurants, fundraisers, crafts -- the opportunities are limited only by the members of the group's imagination and time. As a member of this club, you will be sharing your email address and phone number with other A-LLL-In Social Club members. This group will only be used to email one another with potential social outing opportunities. This is not a group for political, religious, and other advocacy efforts. Let's have fun together and make new friends and memories.
