Wofford LLL Club Guidelines
A Club is launched by an individual or nucleus of LLL members with a shared interest in the same subject, and who are willing to participate as active, rather than as passive, learners. Clubs are independent and self-managed with members deciding when they will meet and planning how the group will function. Initially, members volunteer to be leaders or co-leaders, and leadership roles should rotate. Volunteers also handle scheduling details.
Clubs are a benefit offered by LLL members for LLL members.
- member-managed, with the members deciding when, where, and how often they meet.
- handle administrative and communication details to thei club membership.
- most meet once a month although they may meet more or less often.
- LLL staff can help the Clubs to promote and advertise to LLL membership online and in eblasts and term flyers.
- Clubs grow, develop and are sustained by active participation/commitment of their members.
- Clubs do not meet at CUMC in July, August (until rosters have been created through registration), December and on national holidays.
To start a Club:
- It must be open to all interested, current LLL annual members.
- Clubs can reserve free space at Central or Wofford through the Director or can be held off-site. If using CUMC they must work with the director to find a suitable time and room that does not conflict with the LLL main class and event schedule. This might mean that the club meeting space may move from one room to another each term.
- Clubs do not take the place of LLL courses. Instruction should be limited in clubs to only members of the club sharing knowledge with one another. If outside experts are brought in, the club should receive approval by the Director prior to inviting the expert. Clubs are meant to be purely for play and socializing. They complement and enhance classes and other programs offered by LLL. They should not replace them.
If you would like to start a Club contact Lucy Woodhouse and/or submit a club request form via our website under this category. Proposals for Clubs are taken on an ongoing basis but most start in the Fall term.
As Clubs are created, members will be notified through LLL’s weekly eNewsletter and invited to join.
- To join an established Club, annual members must register annually online to be included on the distribution list for the Club, and only annual members can participate. Friends, spouses, significant others, children are not invited to club events unless they are a member of LLL and the club. To be removed from a Club, members need to notify the LLL office that they would like to be dropped.
