Designing with Tradition: Faux Mud Cloth Tote Bags   

Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of African textile art with this workshop on creating faux mud cloth tote bags. Known as "Bogolanfini" in Mali, this traditional technique involves intricate patterns and natural dyes, resulting in stunning and culturally rich fabric designs. In this workshop, you will learn how to replicate the look of authentic mud cloth using accessible materials and modern methods. You will explore the history and cultural significance of Bogolanfini, master the techniques for designing and painting your fabric, and craft a beautiful, functional tote bag. Whether you're a seasoned crafter or new to textile arts, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to celebrate and create inspired by African heritage.

Required Materials: Participants are asked to bring 1 fabric paint color and $5 to cover the cost of the canvas tote bag. Recommended Paint—These are mixed with acrylics to ensure your designs are vibrant, durable, and machine washable: Jacquard Textile Colors • Tulip Soft Fabric Paints • Pebeo Setacolor Fabric Paint • Liquitex Professional Fabric Medium.

NOTE: Safety Officers will guide everyone to the appropriate place on the first day.
