Charleston Dancing is the 1st of the South Carolina State Dances, and we are celebrating its 100-year anniversary with this quick, fun and easy OLLI course. During these 4 sessions, we will study not only the dancing but also the fashion, music and history of this lively style. The class begins with a Charleston Line Dance warm-up, and from there you will be introduced to the basics and learn how to Suzi-Q, Grapevine, Cake Walk and Beez Kneez with 1920's Ragtime Razzamatazz. Now here's a dance that you can learn as a solo freestyle dancer or as a couple (you will learn how to do both!) and no partner or experience is necessary. Polymer clay is one of the most versatile (and forgiving) mediums around. Learn to condition the clay, work with simple tools and go wild with color. Sample projects will be available to spark your imagination. Some project ideas are: small sculptures, tiles, and jewelry, including beads, pins and earrings.

Required Materials Fee: $20 payable to the instructor at the beginning of the first class.

This course is for beginners only who do not have any experience painting in watercolors. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

The course will begin with understanding and painting the color wheel and how to mix and use colors effectively. Students will learn about the different types of watercolor paints, papers, and how to use brushes for different techniques. Each week you will paint a new watercolor painting, including seascapes, birds, and flowers. By the final week, you will be encouraged to paint an original watercolor of your choice.

Required Materials: watercolor paper 9 x 12 (Arches or Strathmore), watercolor paint set (tubes or pans, NO NEON!), watercolor brushes: ROUND small #2 or #3, medium #6 or #7, large #11 or #12 and FLAT 1" brush, carbon or transfer paper, pencil, 2 cups for water, painter's tape (NOT masking tape), paper towels, brown cardboard or board 12 x 15 (this can be from a delivery box), empty paper towel cardboard roll, palette to mix colors (10" round or square)

These supplies can be bought on Amazon or at a local art store. The most important supplies are good quality paper, a few good brushes, beginner watercolors and a quality set of primary color watercolors.

Using a 4" metal ring and attaching .08mm wire, students will add beads to simulate a tree, and create a colorful sun-catcher or wall hanging. Students will select and coordinate their choice of colors.
