Camp facilitator, Margaret Royzen, is a 30+ year professional software developer and is certified as a C# Programmer and a C# Web Developer. The camp and coding/game design teaching material has been developed or customized to cover specific language syntax and best design and programming techniques.

    This is very fun and popular camp and students will leave the class being confident in mastering the main concepts of JavaScript.  Besides the JavaScript language, this class will teach professional design and coding patterns and techniques. Students will see and use real-world applications of mathematical concepts such as coordinate system, variables, matrices, Pythagorean theorem, and more. 

    Students will be making Calculator, Sudoku, Piano, Paint, Spellman, Treasure Hunt, Blasterball and Matching Memory Games. The class is taught by Margaret Royzen, a professional software developer with 30+ years of experience in the software industry and 11 years of teaching CS. Her students were accepted into the top Seattle Area High Schools and top CS programs in the country.

    While making video games students will learn the following:

    • Basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript and how they work together

    • Variables

    • Conditionals, Loops and Functions

    • Classes and Objects

    • Working with keyboard and mouse events

    • Animating, Hit Testing, Collision Detection, Acceleration and Speed

    All coding will be done with JavaScript, HTML and CSS only without any third party library. We consider this very important as it promotes deeper understanding of the techniques involved.

    No previous experience is necessary. Good typing skills required.

    Meet AI - Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

    The course will start with the introduction to AI and Neural Networks main concepts. Students will get acquainted with existing image recognizing and text generating applications, will try to determine deepfake images.  Then will proceed with learning the basics of Image Recognition and Natural Language Processing.  Students will learn how to collect data and train an AI model with no code AI tools. They will make several working image recognition models which work on their own images.  After that, using code, we will make a face recognition application and build a chatbot.

    The class is taught by an experienced instructor who teaches at the SCDS school and whose students won international programming competitions. Some JavaScript is used in the course.  Knowledge of basic programming commands in JavaScript, Java or C# such as ifs and loops is desirable.  The course duration is 30 hours.

    Age: 12-17.
