    The HSK is a globally recognized test for measuring Chinese language proficiency among non-native speakers, offering official certification and facilitating academic and career opportunities. This course, tailored to HSK exam level 1, provides structured lessons and exercises. Textbook and workbook will be provided electronically by the teacher. Suitable for students aged 15+ 

    Shoreline College is excited to be working with Yingqi Zheng through a partnership with our International Education department and the Confucius Institute in WA. Yingqi is an associate professor at the School of Overseas Education, Sichuan University, specializing in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. She holds a Ph.D. and a Master's degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Sichuan University. With over 13 years of experience, she teaches comprehensive Chinese courses at all levels, as well as phonetics and reading skills. She has also led cultural workshops at Pacific Lutheran University and university in South Korea, promoting traditional Chinese culture.

    Suitable for students who have completed HSK Level 2 or possess equivalent proficiency. The course enhances language fluency and comprehension through structured lessons, dialogues, and cultural content. Students will learn around 600 vocabulary words and more complex grammar structures using the HSK 3 Standard Course textbook, preparing them for intermediate-level communication and HSK 3 testing.

    This class is a continuation of JAPN& 121 with more vocabulary, more sentence structures, communication strategies. More kanji characters are introduced. Topics: hobbies, likes and dislikes, leisure activities, families, travelling, and Japanese customs and traditions.A beginning course dedicated to learning two essential types of Japanese writing systems - Hiragana and Katakana.

    Completion of Japanese 121 or instructor approval. The instructor recommends that students purchase a Japanese Stationary Genkouyoushi Writing Notebook (available on Amazon for $9.98) or similar notebook (not required). This course  requires assignments to be turned in using Canvas(LMS) which is free for Shoreline CE students. No tests required! 

    This course is non-credit, but can be taken for college credit  as Japanese 121  World Languages Department | Shoreline Community College Only 6 spaces for CE students so register early!

    It's never too late to develop your foreign language skills! Impress your friends and colleagues by developing your conversational ability in real life situations in your community or while traveling. Study basic pronunciation and grammatical structure in a nurturing interactive environment. Recommended for people who have never taken Spanish. The course is Latin based and for beginner students and also explores cultural studies including exposure to Hispanic art, music and history. 

    This course uses Canvas(LMS) which is free for Shoreline CE students and also a digital book platform (costs around $130) and can be used for all three sections without additional costs. We will provide training before rhe class starts!

    This course is non-credit, but can be taken for college credit for SPAN& 121 Spanish I.  World Languages Department | Shoreline Community College Only 6 spaces for CE students so register early!

    ***NOTE: Class meets 1 day per week on campus on Tuesdays with online zoom practice session on Thursdays for a total of 12 sessions. Course materials are included.  

    Lucas grew up in Brazil and has been teaching since 2015. He holds a degree in Language and Literature and a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. Lucas’ passion for languages includes fluency in Spanish and Portuguese, and now beginning to find his love for the French language as a teacher at the North Seattle French School.
