Woodland Park Players and Shoreline College present Disney's "Newsies!" on stage!
Be a part of our inaugural summer production of Newsies! We are thrilled to launch this exciting new partnership program between Shoreline College and the Woodland Park Players. We are inviting performers ages ~14–20 to audition for this high-energy, dance-driven musical inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899.

REHEARSALS AND SHOW DATES:
● Rehearsals: June 29th - July 31st - Monday - Friday, 9am-3pm
● Shows: July 31st - August 2nd
Rehearsals and shows will take place at Shoreline College in the #1600 Theater

TUITION:
Tuition is $1,100 for this 5-week program, encompassing approximately 150 hours of rigorous, hands-on training. Designed as an immersive experience, the program provides students with the opportunity to deepen their performance skills, engage in meaningful collaboration, and grow artistically, personally, and professionally.

What to Prepare
● Song: 32 bars (approx. 1 minute) of a musical theatre song that showcases your vocal range and storytelling
● Monologue: 1-minute contemporary monologue
● Please bring sheet music in the correct key (an accompanist will be provided)
● Please bring a headshot and resume

● Newsies will be cast in a way that welcomes performers of all gender identities and expressions.
● Female-presenting and nonbinary performers are absolutely encouraged to audition for and will be considered for male “newsies” roles and other traditionally male-presenting tracks.
● We are committed to thoughtful, respectful storytelling that reflects both the spirit of the piece and the diversity of our community.
Casting Breakdown
Newsies features a large, dynamic ensemble with opportunities for strong singers, actors, and dancers. Many roles may be double cast depending on enrollment.
Principal Roles
● Jack Kelly The charismatic leader of the newsboys. A natural leader with a rebellious streak and big dreams of a better life. Vocal Range: Tenor (strong mix/belt)
● Katherine Plumber A smart, ambitious young reporter who champions the newsboys’ cause. Strong-willed, witty, and compassionate. Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano with strong belt
● Crutchie A loyal newsboy with a big heart and optimistic spirit. Uses a crutch but doesn’t let it define him. Vocal Range: Tenor
● Davey Intelligent and practical; becomes a key strategist in the strike. Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone
● Les Davey’s younger brother. Spirited, charming, and full of personality. (Strong actor; unchanged voice acceptable)
● Medda Larkin A bold and theatrical saloon owner and performer. Big personality and commanding stage presence. Vocal Range: Alto/Mezzo (belt)
● Joseph Pulitzer The powerful newspaper publisher and primary antagonist. Driven, intimidating, but complex. Vocal Range: Baritone

● Spot Conlon – Leader of the Brooklyn newsies; tough and respected
● Race, Albert, Specs, Romeo, Mush, Buttons, Elmer, Finch, Jo Jo, Henry, Mike, Ike – Featured newsboys with strong personalities and featured moments
● Wiesel – Gruff distribution manager
● Seitz – Editor who works for Pulitzer
● Bunsen – Pulitzer’s assistant
● Hannah – Pulitzer’s secretary
● Nunzio & Romeo’s Family – Optional ensemble doubling roles

● Delancey Brothers’ henchmen

● Vaudeville performers
Strong dancers are highly encouraged to audition. This show features athletic, stylized choreography and many featured ensemble moments.Callback Information

● Auditioners will be notified via email by end of day Monday, May 25
● Callback materials will be provided in advance
