Hobbies and Crafts   

You must be signed in and a current annual member in order to have access to register for any of our courses or clubs. Many of our social and special events are open for non-members, but all courses have member-only access. Scholarships for class fees are available for students once they join as an annual member.   • A Time to Knit

    • New knitters and experienced ones this is the class for you. By the end of class our new knitters will learn how to complete a dishcloth. For our experienced knitters our award-winning instructor will offer help with projects not yet completed or will help start you on a new project. Beginners should bring a size 8, 29-inch circular needle and a skein of 100% cotton yarn. Craft stores Joanne’s, Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc., all carry needles and yarn. The best way to knit is with new friends.

    • We will review the basics of "Party Bridge" as we sit at 4-person tables and learn to refine our bidding and play as we go! As usual, there will be lots of laughter, and occasional frustration. Recommend that absolute beginners not join this class. This class is for folks who have been exposed to bridge and want to learn more and play more hands with other beginning bridge players.

    • In this beginner crochet course you will learn the basic stitches: the chain, single, half-double, double crochet, and how to crochet in the round. We will make a hot pad to use in the kitchen. Students will need to provide their own: 5mm crochet hook, cotton yarn (important) and a large darning needle to sew up the hot pad. All these supplies can be purchased at Hobby Lobby or Joanne's.

    • Instructor: Bailie .

    • Bailie will instruct you in your choice of color, graphite or white chalk pencils to draw portraits. Several techniques will be taught in this class, such as drawing in reverse and drawing without lines. You'll be taught what brand of pencils are preferred, what preferred paper is best for results and how to blend, shade and shadow. Students will also be taught layering, texturing, and application. A materials supply list is provided. By the end of the 8 weeks, you will have learned the basics as well as advanced techniques of pencil portraiture in your chosen medium.

      So you’ve had at least one watercolor course and are ready for more? Springtime means flowers. Learn how to recognize and draw a few basic flower shapes. Using watercolors, we’ll paint them as a single subject, as a group, and in a natural setting if time allows. Students should bring their own art supplies to class.
