This class meets two days a week for 45 minutes in the White Oaks Wellness salt water pool. This is an intermediate-level water class with continuous movement using pool noodles, aqua dumbbells and gloves to improve flexibility, balance and strength for the entire body. This class is open to those who have previously practiced yoga or participated in a series of chair yoga classes. Connecting movement with breath will improve your posture, strength, flexibility, balance, and range of motion. During the first few sessions, you will practice exercises to develop strength in your arms and legs. In the last few sessions, we will add important techniques on how to get down on the floor and back up again! Students should wear comfortable clothing that will allow movement without restrictions. Athletic shoes or walking shoes are suggested. You will need a yoga mat or beach towel for the last few classes.

The best way to learn about the natural world is "to walk, to see, and to see what you see" according to Benton MacKaye, the conceptual father of the Appalachian Trail. In this class we will hike local trails in the Upstate, but we will also learn to see what we see by pausing to identify bird calls, tracks and other animal signs, and to enjoy the beauty of the places we walk though. If the weather prevents hiking we will spend class time learning to identify scat, tracks, song and sign and, for ambitious hikers, discussing what is needed for hiking much longer paths like the Appalachian Trail.

You'll learn about the history and benefits of qigong, and have the opportunity to practice and participate in learning qigong moves and breathing techniques. Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice that has been used for centuries to promote health and vitality. Qigong for Health is a great way to learn about this beneficial practice and to improve your overall health. This class requires full-body movement, and loose-fitting clothing is recommended.

We will be challenging your balance, working on a range of motion, and getting our heart rates up in a fun and safe environment. The materials you will need include proper bathing suits, aqua shoes if desired, and a bottle of water to drink during and after class. Let's have some fun in the pool and achieve your fitness goals together! NOTE: This class is only open to people who do not live at Summit Hills.
