Exercise/Fitness   

While only annual members can attend our classes during the academic year, we invite non-members to register for our summer classes. This opportunity is in addition to special events and trips, which are open to all students year-round. Summer term is a great time to see what Lifelong Learning has to offer if you’re new to Spartanburg or to our program. Annual memberships will be available for purchase between August 1, 2025 and March 20. Benefits of an annual membership run through June 30. 

Note: Annual members receive $10 off any class during the summer term. Special events are excluded from this offer.

    This class is an introduction to chair yoga and is open to all ages and levels. Relax your body and improve your physical and mental health with easy yoga stretches. Connecting movement with breath will improve your posture, strength, flexibility, balance, and range of motion. Students should wear comfortable clothing that will allow movement without restrictions. Athletic shoes or walking shoes are suggested.

    In Chinese philosophy the concept of Yin and Yang symbolizes our world of opposites… such as hot and cold. This class will explore ways to nourish our inner calm and coolness, through slow movement and breathing, as we move through the sizzling days of summer.

    Please do not sign up for this section unless you have already taken Wofford’s LLL Beginning Chair Yoga, participated in a chair yoga series at another location, OR  held a regular yoga practice at a studio. Connecting movement with breath will improve your posture, strength, flexibility, balance, and range of motion. During the first few sessions, you will practice exercises with a nine inch playground ball to develop strength in your arms and legs.  In the last few sessions, you will learn important techniques on how to get down on the floor and back up again!  Students should wear comfortable clothing that will allow movement without restrictions. Athletic shoes or walking shoes are suggested. You will need a yoga mat or beach towel for the last few classes.

    This class is 45 minutes long. Don't be late! Students are requested to purchase a 9" playground ball (<$10)to be used throughout the term for exercises. A yoga mat will be needed for the last few classes. Details provided in receipt notes.
 

  • Let's Dance for Fun and Health!

    This class introduces the basic principles of dance and is open to all ages and levels. Move your body and enhance your physical and mental well-being through fun, easy-to-follow dance routines. Connecting movement with music will help improve coordination, strength, flexibility, balance, and overall mobility. At the end of four weeks, we will have a fully choreographed dance! This class requires full-body movement, and loose-fitting clothing is recommended. Athletic shoes or walking shoes are suggested.

     

    This is a one-hour class.
 

  • Pilates 101: Pilates for EVERYbody

    This mat Pilates class features a series of exercises performed on a mat with little to no equipment. The class will focus on building your core strength, balance, and flexibility. The exercises are based on the original Contrology method created by Joseph Pilates. Some classes may incorporate a small ball (provided by the instructor), but no equipment is needed other than a mat. The class is beginner friendly. Please bring a mat and a water bottle to class.
