All ACT 2 fitness classes require a completed ACT 2 Program Fitness Class Clearance Form be on file with the ACT 2 office. One form is required each academic year.

Attention Fitness Students: Starting July 1, 2025, all fitness students must have a Fitness Form (student ID not required) on file before registering for 2025-2026 classes. Submit your form by August 3rd to avoid registration delays!


FITNESS CLASS DEFINITIONS and LEVELS

Definitions

Physical activity = activity that increases energy expenditure such as walking or household chores.

Exercise = physical activity with the intention of developing fitness, agility, and endurance.

Guide to Fitness Levels

1 - Starting Out: For those who engage in limited physical activity 3 times per week or less.

2 - Getting Going: For those who engage in physical activity at least 3 times per week.

3 - Staying Active: For those who exercise at least 2-3 times per week.

4 - Athlete: For those who exercise almost every day.

 

Sandpipers in Watercolor

This class will focus on subtle value changes and leaving white space. We will use hard and soft edges, wet-on-wet, and glazing techniques in this one day workshop. 

Online: This class is offered in live, instructor-led, real-time sessions in a virtual classroom environment. Students must attend class online during the class dates and times listed above. Must have computer with audio and video to participate.

Sea Otter in Watercolor

In this one day, online workshop we will about leaving white space, using glazing techniques, soft blending, and wet-on-wet to paint a cute, big-eyed sea otter.

Yoga

Increase your body awareness, muscle strength, flexibility and balance. Reduce stress, regain range of motion, and manage pain in your muscles, bones and joints through proper breathing and a complete workout that supports physical wellbeing and mental clarity. Class includes some floor work.

Barre with Bands and a Ball

Barre is a style of full body movement exercise consisting of combinations of ballet, pilates and yoga. It can be practiced at home with a simple sturdy chair, countertop, railing or bar on the wall. Barre can help improve posture, balance, flexibility, strength, core and coordination. Students will learn about allover body alignment, feet placement for weight-bearing positions, shoulder positions for strength, head to hip placements for better control and balance. Overall outcome for the barre course is for better energy flow with fluidity of movement and less stress on joints by lengthening and strengthening muscles.

Class Notes: You will need a simple sturdy chair or countertop or railing or bar on the wall. Other equipment used will be a Pilates ball (between 4 inches to 9 inches in size) and a loop resistance bands (12 inches flat).

Core Basics

Learn exercises that engage core muscles to prevent back pain, increase endurance, improve balance and stability, improve posture, and increase strength for functional fitness. You may even look stronger and thinner after! Participants will learn how to use their core while sitting, standing, and lying down in prone (front) and supine (back) positions. Fitness Level 2 3 4

Class Notes: 

Enhance your daily life with stretches and core stability exercises. Relieve joint and spine stress, reduce aches, and strengthen your muscles. This class helps prevent back pain, improve balance, posture, and overall strength. Perfect for beginners, it offers simple yoga basics to stretch all muscle groups, preventing injuries from tight muscles. Learn to use your core effectively while sitting, standing, and lying down.

 

Class Note: You will need a pole (like a broomstick or yardstick) and a hand towel (like a bathroom or kitchen one).

Fearless Watercolors: Painting Fun Level Two

Ramp up your knowledge of painting with watercolors the fearless way. Be inspired as you continue to learn and work with transparent watercolors. Watch Elise as she demonstrates a wide range of painting techniques and receive lots of individual creative support in this very special fearless painting with watercolors class. Study and practice methods like working wet into wet, dry brush and layering techniques as well as the artwork of the masters, like Andrew Wyeth or Winslow Homer. It is recommended that students have taken at least one beginning watercolor painting class prior.

Nia® Moving To Heal™

Rejuvenate your body in a gentle way in order to feel better. Take charge of your own self-healing using less-physically intense dance movements with the Nia Techniques from martial, dance, and healing arts. Strengthen awareness of your body intelligence, while moving at your own level to inspiring music. No experience needed, can be done barefoot, and upright or in a seated position. Qigong: Level One

QiGong is a series of gentle slow movements and controlled deep breathing like those of tai chi designed to counter the extreme effects of stress on your body.  In addition, research shows that QiGong can also improve strength, flexibility, and endurance. This course is designed for all ages and can be done either sitting or standing, and all you need are comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and shoes. This class is taught by a Doctor of Chiropractic who believes in the positive health benefits of QiGong and invites you to come give it a try!

Yoga for Life

Learn and practice the fundamentals of basic yoga poses in a sequence designed to improve and maintain health and vitality in all systems of your body.
