Developed out of the temperance movement of the 1890s, Bludwine was a soft drink intended to move people away from alcohol to a more wholesome beverage. During Bludwine's 90-year existence, it went from a small-town product to a national and multinational, renowned soft drink. The class will cover Bludwine from its creation through its demise. Participants will use hands-on learning with genuine items as Mark shares knowledge gained through researching and collecting Bludwine and Budwine items over the past 30 years.

Ian Hardin grew up in the fifties and early sixties while Birmingham was embroiled in the Civil Rights Movement. Bull Connor, the notorious Birmingham Police Commissioner, was in Hardin's Dad's Sunday School class, and the events of the 50's and early 60's were part of Ian's vivid growing-up experiences. This will be the story of coming from Scotland to a different and sometimes turbulent world.

Jewish pharmacist Joseph Jacobs is familiar to Georgians as the owner of the drugstore at which Coca-Cola was invented. He is also the founder of the Burns Club of Atlanta. A major collector of Burnsiana (he had a library of 794 volumes of Burns material), Jacobs began the club in 1896 - and it still meets today in a replica of Burns's birthplace in Atlanta (a building Jacobs funded in 1911). This class will provide some of the history of the club and ponder the significance of Robert Burns not only to Jacobs but also to Atlanta and the South in general.

James II of England was overthrown in the "Glorious Revolution" of 1689. Attempts to bring back the Stuarts failed. A third began on August 19, 1745, when Charles Edward Stuart, the grandson of James II, landed at Glenfinnan on the Scottish west coast to lead the Jacobites south to retake the British throne. This rebellion ended tragically at Culloden, near Inverness, in April, 1746. The "Highland Culture" was destroyed and Scotland was never the same afterward. We will discuss all of this and speculate on how UK history, and ours, would have been changed drastically had Bonnie Charlie been successful.

This class will present an overview of the Baha'i faith and its teachings. Throughout history, God has sent to humanity a series of divine educators whose teachings have provided the basis for advancement of civilization. These divine educators include Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus and Muhammad. Bahà’ullah, the latest of these educators, explained that the religions of the world come from the same source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God. Humanity, having passed through the age of infancy and childhood, now stands at the threshold of its collective maturity for the unification of the human race in global civilization, both materially and spiritually.
