We will take a ferry from Scrabster on the northeast coast of Scotland, passing the famous Old Man of Hoy on our way to the village of Stromness, on the western end of the Main Island. We will explore both the famous neolithic sites, as well as some that are not easy to get to. The most famous Orkadian is John Rea, well known as an intrepid explorer and friend of the native people in the Northwest Territories of Canada, where I canoed on the Keele River - but that is another story and maybe another OLLI program!

What is the value of the metal and e-waste lying around your garage, basement, or yard? This course starts with an historical survey regarding scrap recycling and its necessity for survival in Jewish ghettos. The second part examines the two classifications of ferrous vs. non-ferrous waste, and the many classes of non- ferrous material. The third part involves personal application for each student (classifying, pricing, preparing, and bargaining at the scales). The presentation wraps up with an analysis of the future of metals and e-waste recycling.

The Venice Biennale has been held every 2 years (as possible) since 1895. Every nation in the world is invited to present their best artists. The 60th Biennale is scheduled from April to November 2024. The 59th Biennale had 80 national exhibits, including 29 permanent country pavilions. The non-permanent country pavilions are scattered in rented space around Venice, in attic garrets, churches, and fancy palaces. The presenter plans to visit as many of the exhibits as possible. For a preview, Google “Jeffrey Gibson,” the indigenous artist who will exhibit in the USA's permanent building.
