  • Darwin and Darwinism

  • Charles Darwin's ideas on biological evolution are among the most impactful in modern science... and the most controversial. Even as fights over teaching biological evolution continue in our own time, Darwinian thinking is increasingly applied to new areas of science, the social sciences and even the humanities. This course we will review biological thinking before Darwin, then his life and core ideas, and the wildly varied reception of those ideas. Finally, the discussion will consider how, in recent decades, evolutionary thinking has been applied with astonishing success to new areas of scholarship and modern life.

In this course, based on the work of Tony Seba, we introduce several new technologies that promise to change our world over the next 20 years.
